OEE combines availability, performance and quality, but the percentage is only the beginning. The value comes from the loss tree underneath it and the action it drives.
- Define planned production time and downtime categories consistently.
- Separate speed loss, micro-stoppages and quality loss instead of hiding them in one number.
- Use OEE with maintenance and process evidence to prioritize reliability work.
A higher OEE number is not the goal by itself; more stable, useful production output is.
OEE is useful when it helps expose the loss mechanism behind useful output—not when improving the score becomes the objective.
